Jason Schatz

research areas: Urban Heat Island

Schatz’s role on the project is to characterize Madison's urban heat island effect, particularly how land cover affects the local climate and its influence on human health, local ecosystems, and quality of life. He received a B.S. in Environmental Science from Iowa State University and an M.S. in Forestry from the University of Maine. From 2009 to 2011 he worked in the Forest Landscape Ecology Lab at UW-Madison, and in 2011 he joined the WSC project as a Ph.D. student. He completed his doctorate in the Environment and Resources program of the Nelson Institute for Environmental Studies in 2015.
